Popular Cruise destinations (and tips before you go)

By Ivan Calderwell

Have you ever thought of taking a cruise vacation? If so this article will give you a run down of the best liked destinations, as well as other information that you will find useful before you take your well deserved vacation.

If you think of cruising only as a vacation that involves hot sunny places and sun kissed sandy beaches you are wrong. These days these are only a few of the places that you can choose if you go on a cruise. Alaska is in fact currently the most common place tourist choose as cruise destination.

But Alaska might be too cold for some and if so then there are other popular destinations like the ever popular sunny Caribbean. Other cruises cater for many other different countries. In Europe, the Scandinavian countries attract lots of tourists. Even countries Italy, Greece and Turkey are widely know as popular destinations. Then there are other far flung exotic destinations like the Galapagos Islands, South America, and Panama, with Hawaii being an extremely popular cruise of the Pacific Ocean routes.

Before you go on a cruise there are some important bits of information you should arm yourself with. This applies to which ever cruise you decide to go on and being aware of it will most certainly ensure that you have the best cruising experience possible.

When you go on a cruise make sure that you choose the best time of year for your cruise destination. If you are single or a couple without kids for example, going during the school terms is definitely the best plan if you want to avoid the noise pollution that kids could cause. Also, as cruises mostly cater for families this could also be a time when it is cheaper to go. However be aware that it is not recommended to go cruising to some destinations at certain times of year. For example if you want to go to the Caribbean, you should avoid booking between May and August as this tends to be the storm season. Conversely this is a good time to go to Alaska but outside these dates cruises to Alaska are either not recommended or not available due to the bad weather.

The last bit of advice you need to be aware of, is to go and visit a physician before taking a cruise. Some countries where you might disembark will require that you are vaccinated against certain diseases. Plus if you have any trouble with sea sickness it is best you bring some medication with you. This is not so likely to happen in luxury and comfort of cruises but always best to be safe so that you can enjoy every day of your holiday without any minor upsets to spoil it.
